ZANESVILLE − The Salvation Army of Zanesville, 515 Putnam Ave., has closed its food pantry. May 31 was its last day.

The exact reason why was not disclosed to The Times Recorder. Only a statement was provided via email which read: “After prayerful consideration, we have decided to focus on our soup kitchen, shelter and social services,” said Envoy George Bates.

The Salvation Army’s soup kitchen is a restaurant-type environment and offers nutritious meals to the public Monday through Friday from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

The food pantry was considered an emergency service.

“Anyone in need of food pantry services is encouraged to call the United Way information and referral hotline at 211,” Bates said in his statement.
